MAKING TIME

DAY 4: Last night I received some very bad news. A precious friend who had recently been released from the hospital with pneumonia suffered a stroke.  At only 45 years old, she now lays in a hospital bed unable to recognize her own family.  The stroke has left her without her memory.  I love this friend and am desperate to help her.  I have cried out to God to restore her, heal her, make it right.  Does he hear me? He does!  

Perfectly knowing what my need would be on this very day, He planned to have a message waiting for me when I opened His word today.  I didn't have to hunt and find a message to make me feel better. I only had to open His word to the passage already planned for today.  God is there, ready to talk to us personally.  And today, of all days, He reminded me that HE IS A HEALER.  

Matthew 4:23 "And he healed the people who had every kind of sickness and disease... and whatever their illness and pain, or if they were possessed by demons, or were epileptics, or were paralyzed, he healed them all."  

God wasn't promising me that he would heal my friend, but He was reminding me that He is able to heal, willing to heal and and that He hears my pleading.  I can trust Him!  He added more comfort as I read the psalm for the day and encouragement to keep seeking His hand.  

WOW, what a thrill to know that God was waiting and ready for me to come to Him so He could pour Himself into my situation. He is waiting and ready to talk with you as well - no matter what your circumstances. He has encouragement, guidance, wisdom, and hope. All I have to do is make time to listen.

THE LAST WORD

DAY 8: Okay, one more Bailey story... Not only is my 21-year-old son a natural born actor, he likes drama in life in general.  He particularly thinks its entertaining to spar with his equally strong headed mother.  Our good-natured exchanges usually end with a game to see who will get the last word.  We've been known to go on for a while until one of us manages to spit out the last retort and retreat from the room before a reply can echo.  He's pretty quick, but on occasion, my voice is the last one heard on a topic. As I detoured from my regular reading today into the book of Hebrews to prepare for a Bible lesson, I discovered that the ultimate LAST WORD has already been spoken.  In the first chapter of this "book of better things" the writer makes clear that on the subject that matters most in all the universe, there is nothing left to add. WHEN YOU'RE READY TO SPLIT

DAY 153: Only two times in all the years I have been speaking at churches have I had a cancellation. Once was a summer event that was cancelled because of an extreme heatwave that hit the California area where the hosting church was located.  The planner felt sure that attendance would suffer at the "Christmas in July" event as the temperature topped 115 degrees.  They rescheduled. The other group did not reschedule after their planner called to say they would not be hosting an event because the congregation was going through a contentious church split.Things were definitely heating up there, too. Church splits are no laughing matter, but I laughed anyway when I recently read this news post that is all too close to home for many Christian congregations. Centerville, Ga - The small community of Centerville has a population of just over 5000 people, but with a total of 48 Presbyterian Churches .
